We all need somewhere we can call home. At Young Roots, that is exactly what we strive to provide — a warm, friendly, homely environment where the young person can feel safe and secure, knowing they will be taught the skills they need to sustain their stay with us and move on with confidence.
Each young person is provided with their own comfortable room with bed, bedroom furniture, study desk, and a WELCOME pack consisting of all bedding requirements, towels, toiletries, and an essential food starter pack.
We concentrate on the individual needs of young people and identify each person’s needs through a Personal Support Plan (PSP). Our team of professionals work in line with the young person’s PSP to identify appropriate life skill, education, training, and support services.
Education
We are committed to providing the young person with educational opportunities necessary to develop their full potential. We believe education is a crucial aspect of stabilising a young person and providing a good foundation for employment.
Employment
We encourage and support young people in accessing training or employment and work closely with local colleges and training providers. Support includes:
- Help with CV writing, job search, application forms and interview skills
- Advice on relevant benefits
- Access to computers, printing, and phone
- Help with applying for jobs, college, apprenticeships and other training opportunities
Life Skills
We help young people develop skills to perform everyday tasks such as paying bills, cleaning, shopping, and time management. We also provide support with budgeting, managing personal expenses, food preparation, and basic hygiene.
Health
All young people will be registered with the local doctor, dentist, and optician, and be encouraged to attend all health appointments, including CAMHS where relevant.
Legal Support
We assist young people in finding appropriate legal representatives to manage asylum claims or other issues, and help them understand British law and the way it works.
Community & Volunteering
We help source and refer young people to local cultural and community organisations, enabling them to build community support networks and maintain links with their cultural heritage. Young people are encouraged to undertake voluntary work as a means of gaining experience.
Therapeutic Services
We provide a package of therapeutic support where required, contributing to young people’s overall personal and social wellbeing, delivered by professionally qualified and experienced staff in a non-judgmental way.
Accommodation & Allowances
We are able to administer weekly allowances and clothing allowances to clients on agreement with the referring authority.
